Bump and Beyond: Antenatal Classes

Classes are available in Hastings and Rother or in Eastbourner Hailsham and Seaford. further details can be found below.

The Health Visiting Service is currently experiencing high levels of staff shortages across East Sussex.

As a result, we have taken the difficult decision that the Health Visiting team will not be offering an antenatal contact. This means that all of your antenatal care will be provided by the Midwifery Service only and our Health Visiting Service will commence at the new birth visit, which will take place between 10 and 14 days after the birth of your baby.

Although we are unable to offer this contact, within the wider service, first time parents are able to access free Bump and Beyond antenatal education classes which will support you and your birth partner to feel more prepared and confident for your journey through pregnancy, birth and caring for your baby. For more information please visit our Facebook page @HVCCantenatal or call 01424 726450 to book a place. The sessions cover a variety of topics including:

  1. Understanding labour and birth and supporting you to make informed choices
  2. Building a relationship with your baby and understanding how they develop and communicate
  3. Caring for your baby, including safe sleep, bathing and coping with a crying baby
  4. Caring for your emotional and mental wellbeing
  5. Lifestyle choices including family nutrition, smoking and alcohol
  6. How to breastfeed and feed your baby safely

All expectant parents/carers are encouraged to access the Bump and Beyond Antenatal Facebook page as there is up to date information and videos supporting your transition to parenthood with the aim of giving you and your child the best start.

Our Children’s Centres are also now offering some outdoor groups and activities for families. Please check the website for information about what’s on offer at your local Centre – Find your local Children’s Centre and Youth Centre
